The opulence of Marie Antoinette meets the 21st century…
Chandeliers hung from mile-high trees set in front of an 18th-century château sparked the idea for this wedding editorial. We opted for an aesthetic that was both spectacular and playful, opulent and resplendent, and we soon realised we were creating a special ambience for a 21st century Marie Antoinette.
Marie Antoinette made an escape attempt known as the Flight to Varennes which inspired the choice of location, stamps, and speciality cocktails.
The charm behind her way of life inspired this styled shoot at the Château.
We started the day with macaroons in bed, just as she would, and prepared a plethora of luxurious details. Our modern twist on the chandeliers meant suspending them outside the château walls to illuminate a long dinner table elegantly adorned with vintage porcelain plates, vivid floral arrangements, individually calligraphed paper moments, and of course, desserts fit for the queen of cake herself.
Naturally, her party demanded cake, so we had Made in Cake design three and served them as guests gathered under strings of fairy lights for the sunset wedding ceremony.
The acclaimed designer, Rime Arodaky, accepted to lend us two gorgeous dresses from the 2021 collection and we were so lucky to have access to her beautiful pieces. The magic of the lights dancing on the off the shoulder Rime Arodaky wedding gown added a fairy-tale-like touch as the magic of the day faded into the night.
This year marks the 250th anniversary of Marie Antoinette’s wedding and we couldn’t have celebrated it in a better way than with this gorgeous Flight to Varennes.
